Open letter to the American people

(KL) – Dear Americans,

In just one year, your president has turned the “land of opportunity” into a copy of Nazi Germany in the 1930s. As a German born long after the end of World War II, I know how long the consequences of fascism will affect each and every one of you. In order to avoid being despised by the whole world because of this behaviorally disturbed president, you have two options – the midterm elections, which your dictator would prefer to cancel, or impeachment proceedings, because the US will find it difficult to survive another three years under this dictatorship.

Your president tells you every day what a great job he is doing and that the whole world respects the US today. Well, unfortunately, that is not true. This man has not ended eight wars as he claims, nor does the world respect the US today any more than it respects Vladimir Putin. How can one respect presidents who terrorize and kill people at home and abroad, who have their own citizens harassed and killed by militias, who wage one war after another and turn the whole world into a battlefield? Do not believe the notorious liars in your government – for the past year, the US has been as poorly regarded worldwide as Russia.

Your president has established a Gestapo-like militia that, according to his briefcase carrier Hegseth, will go “door to door” to randomly arrest, injure, detain, and deport people, whether they are US citizens or not. We have already experienced this kind of state terror in Germany once before, and it was the prelude to the greatest crime in human history to date. ICE does not, as Trump’s loyal sycophants claim, make the US “safer”; the opposite is true. In cities like Minneapolis, schools remain closed because masked ICE criminals are even attacking children and young people, and it is no longer safe to send children to school.

The claim that you, the US citizens, are better off today is only true if you are a billionaire or millionaire. Those who do not need it are generously rewarded by Trump, while the less wealthy in your country do not even have health insurance, which also means that life expectancy in the US is four years lower than in Europe. But lying has become second nature to your president, a convicted criminal who continues to refuse to allow the publication of the Epstein files, which are likely to incriminate him heavily.

Your president’s embarrassing and childish whining that he wants the Nobel Peace Prize has now been fulfilled by Ms. Machado, who has thereby completely devalued her own Nobel Prize and, of course, the one “gifted” to Trump. The whole world can see that this president, who invades and threatens countries, does not deserve any prize at all, even if he lies to you and tells you otherwise. His planned attack on a NATO country will put an end to the strong relationship and even friendship with the Europeans. One day, you might be missing us.

The murder of Renee Nicole Good, who was denigrated as a “domestic terrorist” by Trump’s henchmen, is an example of how far US neo-fascism has already come. Everyone around the world saw this execution from 10 different camera angles, and for a week now, members of your government have been telling us that everything the world saw is not true.

You, dear Americans, will have to suffer for years and decades from the damage this president is doing. Nevertheless, one continues to read comments supporting Trump because he displays “determination and energy.” However, this assessment also applied to Pol Pot, Stalin, Hitler, and Vlad the Impaler. But you will not be welcome in other countries for decades to come, just as after World War II, no one wanted anything to do with the children of the Nazi generation for decades.

Wake up at last – this Trump administration is transforming the US into a dictatorship modeled on Russia right before your eyes – and you will have to bear the consequences. Vote at the Midterm elections or impeach this man from office, because he is just as dangerous to the world as Putin, whom he so admires. And do it soon, before this political misfit can cause even more damage. Thank you.
