UK Parliamentarians Lead International Call for New Iran Policy
Significant Lawmakers and Political figures Support for Iran Regime Change and NCRI. Maryam Rajavi - “The regime is not able to survive. The force that will overthrow the regime is powerful and ready.”
(KD / KL) – On Saturday, May 17, 2025, a significant international conference was held in Paris, drawing together parliamentarians and political figures from the UK, Canada, Ireland, Malta, Switzerland, Romania, Portugal, and the Netherlands to address the situation in Iran. The event featured a keynote address by Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and highlighted a statement signed by 560 UK lawmakers expressing support for regime change in Iran and recognizing the NCRI as a democratic alternative.
The statement, spearheaded by Conservative MP Bob Blackman, Chairman of the 1922 Committee, urges the UK government to proscribe the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist entity, citing the regime’s domestic repression and international terrorism, as well as a recently foiled terror plot in the UK. The lawmakers emphasized the worsening human rights situation in Iran, pointing to over 1,000 executions in 2024 and the oppressive “Hijab and Chastity Law”.
In her speech, Maryam Rajavi welcomed the attendees and acknowledged their support for democratic change in Iran. She stated that “You and your colleagues in the parliaments of Europe, the United States and Canada have started a credible policy by supporting democratic change in Iran”. She criticized the appeasement of the Iranian regime over the past 40 years, arguing that it hindered the path to change in Iran.
Maryam Rajavi outlined several key facts about the Iranian regime:
-
The religious dictatorship ruling Iran is the source of terrorism and warmongering in the region.
-
This regime will not stop executions, torture, and oppression of women inside Iran, because if it stops, it will be overthrown.
-
It will not stop its nuclear bomb-making program, because it will lose one of the guarantees of its survival.
-
It will not stop warmongering in the Middle East, because its hegemony will collapse.
-
It will not stop terrorism outside Iran, because it will lose its tool to blackmail and threaten other countries.
She reminded that, in the first week of this month, the British government revealed a terrorist operation by the mullahs’ Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that was being planned in London.
Elaborating on the solution to the problem, Mrs. Rajavi emphasized: Based on 40 years of experience, the ruling regime cannot reform itself. It will not change its behavior. A foreign war is not the solution to this problem, either. She added: About the current nuclear talks, as far as the regime is concerned, it is only trying to buy time. It tries to stop the activation of the snapback mechanism. It wants to slow down the growing dissatisfaction of the people by reducing the sanctions. But can these talks force the regime to stop uranium enrichment in Iran? Can they close down the Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow nuclear sites forever? Can they make the regime accept inspections anytime and anywhere?
Khamenei and his allies have said many times that they will not give up the nuclear program, because the domination of Khamenei and the authority of the regime will be undermined. Otherwise, they will go under more pressure to retreat in other fields, and this will lead to the regime’s downfall. For this reason, even under pressure, the regime continues to secretly pursue and advance its nuclear program. The real solution is the overthrow of the regime by the people of Iran and the Iranian Resistance.
Maryam Rajavi called on Europe to take specific actions: “Add the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to the list of terrorist organizations,” “activate the snapback mechanism” regarding UN Security Council resolutions, and “recognize the legitimate resistance of brave young Iranians fighting the IRGC”.
MP Bob Blackman underscored the need for a shift in Iran policy, stating, “It is time to change course on Iran policy. We should align our policy with the major shifts that have occurred in Iran and the region. We must stand with the Iranian people and the organized resistance, led by Maryam Rajavi and her 10-point plan.”
The conference also heard from other prominent speakers, including Rt Hon David Jones, former Cabinet minister, Judy Sgro, former Canadian Minister, and current member of the Parliament from Canada, and Petre Roman, former Prime Minister of Romania, among others. The international delegates voiced their support for the Iranian people’s demands for a democratic Iran, as articulated in Maryam Rajavi’s 10-point plan, which calls for national solidarity and a roadmap to end the current religious dictatorship.
Baroness O’Loan argued that the regime’s repression, particularly against women, reflects its fear of another uprising, recognizing the pivotal role of women in the pursuit of a democratic Iran. She praised Maryam Rajavi’s leadership in this context. She stressed that the Iranian people, through their protests and sacrifices, have demonstrated their readiness for change, and the NCRI provides the means and roadmap for a free and democratic republic.
Former Minister and member of the UK Parliament, Mr. David Jones reminded the role of the NCRI in exposing the Iranian regime’s clandestine nuclear program and said: The regime has consistently deceived the West, failing to engage in genuine dialogue. He noted that despite over two decades of diplomatic efforts, Iran now possesses enough uranium for multiple nuclear weapons, marking a significant failure of Western diplomacy. He stressed the importance of utilizing the snapback mechanism of the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) without delay, stating that if the West is serious about preventing a nuclear-armed Iran, immediate action is necessary.
The event reinforced the growing international recognition of the NCRI as a viable democratic alternative to the current Iranian regime and the increasing calls for a decisive stance against the regime’s human rights abuses and destabilizing activities. Given the threats formulated during the weekend by the Iranian regime against the western world, there is no time to lose to take action.

Thanks for the article. The strong support from 560 UK lawmakers and the inspiring address by Maryam Rajavi highlight a growing international commitment to democracy and human rights for the future in Iran.
Let’s hope that the political support translates one day into real action. It’s time to stop the criminal mullah’s regime!
